What is Anxiety?

Anxiety is a natural response when you feel threatened., you can experience this through your thoughts, feelings or physical emotions. Most people experience anxiety at some point in their lives, especially when going through stressful times or big changes, some people can be worried or afraid about what is about to happen or what they think may happen.

What is Stress?

Stress is when you feel under too much mental or emotional pressure. When you feel unable to cope with the pressure this is when you become stressed. We all have different levels of what we can cope with and a variety of things or situations which make us feel stressed.

Our bodies have evolved to help protect us from threats, when we are under attack our bodies release hormones, including cortisol and adrenaline. These make our hearts beat faster, sending blood to our extremities preparing our bodies to run or fight and help us to be alert and react faster to escape the threat. This happens automatically and is often called the "fight, flight or freeze" response.  When the threat is over the hormone levels return to normal but if you feel constantly under threat the hormones remain in your body and cause the symptoms of stress, this can impact on your physical and mental health.

How can hypnotherapy help?

Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation and can therefore help with the stress and anxiety, you cannot be anxious and relaxed at the same time. It can also help you to discover the cause of your anxiety, whether that is a physical issue, a past experience or a current situation. We can then work out how you wish to feel when you are free from your anxiety and use different tools and techniques to reach your desired goal. You can learn to feel more confident and relaxed and react positively in the situations which previously caused you to feel anxious.

Hypnotherapy is a client centred talking therapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

When you are in a state of relaxation, the conscious mind becomes less active, this happens naturally when you are completely absorbed in a book or a movie. In this state, you are more able to turn your attention inward to find your own internal resources that can help you to make the changes you want, to overcome challenges, achieve goals and improve your well-being..

You are still aware of what you say and do during hypnosis and remain in complete control. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, I merely help to guide you and provide positive suggestions for beneficial change

I am a registered member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and have gained my Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma
